Interest amounting Rs 450 crore waived off in Haryana

The Haryana government has waved off interest amounting to Rs 450 crore to the marginal farmers, petty shopkeepers and artisans in the state under the interest waving scheme of co-operative banks.

NARWANA (HARYANA): The Haryana government has waved off interest amounting to Rs 450 crore to the marginal farmers, petty shopkeepers and artisans in the state under the interest waving scheme of co-operative banks.

"This scheme can be extended if need arises so," Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday said while addressing a public gathering on the occasion of celebration of 127th birth anniversary of Sir Chhotu Ram here.

Hooda described Sir Chhotu Ram as a revolutionary who thought about the poor and downtrodden. He worked throughout his life to maintain the dignity of poor sections, he said.

Taking a dig at the opposition parties, the chief minister said some politicians were in a habit to create a feeling of regionalism which was not in the interest of the development of the state.

State Finance Minister Birender Singh said that Chhotu Ram waged a crusade against the exploitation of the poor people.
