IB, CBI get e-tool to tackle cyber crimes
In a move to tighten cyber security, India’s law enforcement agencies (LEAs), such as CBI and IB, are set to deploy an advanced IT forensic tool.
Cyber forensics is an area of crime analysis that devices techniques to prepare evidence in cyber crimes, so that it can be effectively presented before the court. The new version of CyberCheck Suite has been developed by the Resource Centre for Cyber Forensics at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Thiruvananthapuram, that falls under the ministry of communications and IT. It has incorporated all the suggestions made by LEAs for better acquisition and analysis of data, which was a miss in the previous versions of the software.
“We’ve been waiting for the new software,” said Intelligence Bureau director P C Haldar. CyberCheck Suite Version 3.0 marks the beginning of developing indigenous forensic softwares comparable to ENCASE, the current leading forensic software in the world and can be used in different Indian languages. This also turns out to be a more cost-effective option as the indigineous software will be available at a fraction of the cost of the imported equivalent software tools. The new software has been certified by the Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratories and the National Police Academy, and is expected to be used in various police departments of the country.
