Govt gives big thrust to rural e-governance

Union minister for panchayati raj, sports and youth affairs, Mani Shankar Aiyer has assured minimum of six hours uninterrupted power supply to the regions.

NEW DELHI: In an effort to promote e-governance initiatives in rural parts of the country, Union minister for panchayati raj, sports and youth affairs, Mani Shankar Aiyer has assured minimum of six hours uninterrupted power supply to the regions.

“Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) and Rajiv Gandhi Vidyutikaran Yojana would jointly work to ensure that 6 hours of power supply would be provided in the entire rural area of India to facilitate running of computers,” the minister said while addressing a seminar on e-governance for 10% growth on Friday.

The minister added that his minsitry is shortly going to sign 22 MoUs with industrial houses such as Reliance, Tata and Microsoft to develop business hubs in various parts of rural India. The ministry already has 45 similar MoUs in place to boost the e-governance initiatives and help farmers sell their produce at best possible prices.

Panchayati raj institutions all over the country would act as a facilitator to the e-governance initiatives to ensure that it takes off at high pace.
