New Delhi: Google Cloud on Monday named Microsoft veteran Anil Bhansali as its new vice president of engineering in India.

The tech giant said Bhansali will coordinate software development for the cloud business in the country.

Bhansali was corporate vice president at Microsoft’s Azure cloud division and site leader for its research and development team in India. He was with Microsoft for 28 years.

“We are very excited that Anil Bhansali has joined Google Cloud to help grow and scale our software development support efforts in India so we can continue expanding and advancing Google Cloud services that are used by customers in more than 150 countries worldwide,” said Amit Zavery, vice president-engineering at Google.

Google has recently hired former IBM India head Karan Bajwa to lead its cloud business in the country.

The company has been making a strong push for its cloud business in India where it competes with the likes of Microsoft, IBM and Amazon Web Services, among others.
