ET forum on web threats & data leakage

Web threats have become a growing concern in Asian economies, which are flourishing at a faster rate than the average growth in the global economy.

MUMBAI: Web threats have become a growing concern in Asian economies, which are flourishing at a faster rate than the average growth in the global economy.

In order to address these issues and bring out foresight from experts, ET Intelligence Group in association with knowledge partner Information Systems Audit & Control Association (ISACA) invited a panel of five industry experts.

Among the panellists were ISACA president Mumbai chapter Anjay Agarwal, Trend Micro country manager Niraj Kaushik; L&T head (corporate IT) S Anantha Syana; Godrej Industries GM (information security) Satish Warrier and Hutchison Essar head (IT security) Burges Cooper.

Professor Venugopal Iyengar, director of IOTM, moderated the proceedings for the discussion. Booming economies and increased financial importance have seen a major rise in cybercrime in Asian countries, said Trend Micro vice-president (enterprise marketing) David Spenhoff on Thursday.

During the first five months of 2007, Asia saw over 50% increase in internet related infections, the fastest rate of growth observed by any country. Further, the infection growth also witnessed a sudden acceleration during the said period compared to 20% jump seen during July-December 2006.

With rising threats, organisations are not only suffering from financial losses but their reputation among their client base is also at stake. The panel put forth the need of making business functions web-enabled in order to improve efficiency in a fiercely competitive global business environment.
