Delhi govt may float EoI for free wifi in 2 weeks
The AAP government in its outcome budget in March this year had set the target to launch the project by March 31, 2019 and allocated Rs 100 crore for it.

The project was put on the fast track after the AAP government finalised the wireless internet hotspot model to create public hotspots in residential areas and public places across the city to provide free internet to people. PWD is finalising the number of hotspots, speed of internet that will be available to people, cost and other technical specifications.
CM Arvind Kejriwal chose the hotspot model from the three options — wireless internet hotspots, fibre cables and internet vouchers in a meeting where their advantages and disadvantages were discussed.
The AAP government in its outcome budget in March this year had set the target to launch the project by March 31, 2019 and allocated Rs 100 crore for it. This project was one of the major pre-poll announcements of AAP, besides CCTV cameras in public places. The March 2019 target seems to be a strategic decision by AAP considering the Lok Sabha polls.
The project was earlier with the IT department, but was transferred to PWD. In March 2016, a pilot was started for three months in Burari’s Sant Nagar market.
