"We are rewriting history and need to work collectively to meet the aspirations of the young India. We as the industry and the industry body need to accelerate the pace on innovation, create new infrastructure and platforms, ensure affordability and reachability and inclusive empowerment along with ensuring the digital and information security of this great nation and its people.” said Oommen at the ETTelecom india Mobile Conclave.
The president of the youngest telecom operator that has more than 160 million subscribers said that the current times are a great opportunity for bringing in privacy as key parameter in the New Telecom Policy. "Data is the trillion dollar opportunity for new digital India," said Oommen.
Oommen reiterated how blockchain, lattice cryptography will prevent hackers and bring in more data security. For this, the Jio president said that collaboration is needed from all stakeholders and there must be more collaboration from private, public and academia.
He called for unified license services, more convergence between broadcasting, telecom and IT providers, non-mandatory testing of telecom equipment, incentivizing operators for 5G and more funding to enable emerging technologies in rural India. At the event, he also called for a specific unified data protection regulation.
