BSNL to partner nine foreign telcos for voice, data traffic

NEW DELHI: State-run BSNL plans to enter into agreements with nine foreign telecom operators for voice and data flow in order to serve the enterprise customers.
"BSNL proposes to enter into nine agreements with foreign telecom carriers/telecom service providers to facilitate both way flow of transit and terminating voice and data traffic to basically serve the enterprise customers," Telecom Minister A Raja told Rajya Sabha today.
These include British Telecom, Deutshe Telecom, Oman Tel, Sri Lanka Telecom and MCI (Verizon Business), he added.
He said the state-run company already has similar pacts with 21 other foreign telcos like ATT&, Etisalat, France Telecom and Maxis.
In response to another question, Minister of State for Communications and IT Gurudas Kamat said telecom regulator TRAI, through its amendment to the Interconnection Usage Charges Regulation, has completely phased out Access Deficit Charge (ADC).
ADC was received by BSNL to recoup the deficits incurred by the PSU to meet the social obligations of providing below cost fixed telephone services, particularly in rural areas.
