BookMyShow acquires Chennai based Ticketgreen.com

CHENNAI: To strengthen its presence in south Indian market, entertainment ticketing portal BookMyShow.com has acquired Chennai-based Ticketgreen.com, which has partnership with over 100 cinemas in southern region.

Post this acquisition, BookMyShow.com, a part of Mumbai- based Bigtree Entertainment, aims to strengthen its presence in the South Indian market, a company statement said.

The company did not disclose financial details of the acquisition.

Ticketgreen.com, a company of Ticketgreen Solutions, has partnership with over 100 cinemas and sells about one lakh tickets per month, the statement said.

Recently, BookMyShow.com raised funds worth Rs 100 crore from global investors firm Accel Partners.

BookMyShow.com Founder and CEO Ashish Hemrajani said, "Acquiring Ticketgreen.com is a part of our expansion strategy to grow our footprint in South Indian market. This region being one of the most tech savvy markets in India, offers a huge potential for e-commerce".

The acquisition has strengthened the firm's market presence and provided the requisite local resources and talent pool to expand its presence further into Tier II and III cities in South India, he added.

As part of this acquisition, current employee base of Ticketgreen would come under the BookMyShow.com and would contribute towards strengthening its portfolio in the market, the statement added.
