Wipro takes up robust hiring plan, promises skill-based bonuses

Wipro said its fresher hiring during the January-March quarter stood at 3,000 and would be much more robust in the coming quarters.

Wipro hired nearly 18,000 people in the fourth quarter and has taken up a robust hiring plan in the coming quarters to meet the increasing demand for talent with the rising number of deals.

The Bengaluru-headquartered IT services company said it has promised skill-based bonuses to employees with skills in emerging technology areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and other areas that have higher demand in the industry.

“We did gross hiring of 18,000 people across the company this quarter. Fairly robust hiring planned in the coming quarters to meet the demand,” said Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer, Wipro.


He added that the skill-based bonuses are meant for “the niche skill areas such as cybersecurity, AI and domain experts. “The idea is to ring-fence the talent that are critical for our clients,” he said.

“Our campus hiring was 3,000 people this quarter and (it) will be much more robust,” said Govil, adding that the company is attacking every “aspect of the supply chain” to meet the rising demand.

Wipro, which reported a net addition of 7,404 employees in Q4, is seeing a “continued pressure”. The company said attrition is expected to go up in Q1.
