India's top IT companies and large employers – TCS and Wipro – had sent out advisories to employees in light of the government's planned mock drills today in anticipation of possible hostile attacks, people familiar with the developments said. The companies urged employees to comply with the directives of their respective local administrations and not panic.

TCS said in an email that administrative and human resources teams at different work locations would provide instructions if anything is to be done differently and that employees should stay inside office buildings during the mock siren testing to be held by authorities in a few locations this afternoon.

“In the context of the announcements made by the Ministry of Home Affairs, India, local administrations are planning to conduct mock drills at select cities to check the civic infrastructure capabilities like Sirens, Blackouts and others,” said the email, reviewed by ET. “We, as individual citizens, and as an organization, are required to comply with these requirements as and when they are laid down and communicated from time to time.”

Employees should refer to and align with any directives received from their respective local authorities, it said, adding that the company seeks to provide relevant information employees can use.

It also said employees may refer to the guidelines issued by the national disaster management authority.

Wipro, the country’s fourth-largest software exporter, has also sent out an advisory saying that employees should follow the government’s directives and refrain from panicking, said a person in the know.

The advisory also cautioned employees not to rely on information from unverified sources.

TCS and Wipro did not respond to ET’s queries on the matter at the time of publishing.

TCS, the largest IT vendor, employs 607,979 people globally as of end March 2025. It has locations across India in metros like New Delhi and Bengaluru as well as in smaller cities like Bhubaneswar, Patna and Kochi.

Wipro employs 233,346 people and has offices in India across cities like Begaluru, Noida, Jaipur, Chennai, and others.
