TCS Nashik: A look at the sexual harassment allegations rocking the IT major
IT services major Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has recently come under scrutiny over serious allegations of sexual and religious harassment, and coercion at its Nashik office.

Responding to the developments, Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran today described the charges as ‘gravely concerning’, and has ordered a thorough internal investigation to identify those ‘responsible for this situation’.

Here is an overview of the case and the key developments so far.

What is the case? What has since happened?

Per reports, a woman approached the Deolali Camp police station last month alleging that three colleagues, including a woman, had hurt her religious sentiments over several years, and that one male colleague had repeatedly sexually exploited her.

Following this, Nashik Police began an investigation and appealed to other employees to come forward. Since then, nine FIRs have been filed, eight of them by women, alleging mental and sexual harassment by senior colleagues, and religious slurs. The FIR by a male employee cites hurt religious sentiments.

The FIRs further allege that the company’s HR (human resources department) ignored the women’s complaints, which were reported between February 2022 and March 2026.

The charges include inappropriate touching, objectionable comments about the complainants’ personal lives, body-shaming, coercion to consume non-vegetarian food, attempts at religious conversion at the workplace, and stalking.

On Friday, police arrested seven individuals, most of them in senior roles such as team lead, along with a female HR manager accused of failing to act on these complaints.

Last week, the authorities formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the issue thoroughly.

A local court today extended the HR manager’s police custody till April 15.

How has TCS responded?

Citing its ‘zero-tolerance’ on such matters, TCS suspended the employees under investigation on Sunday.

The controversy also triggered institutional response, with the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) approaching the union labour ministry to demand a comprehensive audit of Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) compliance within TCS, and a broader review across IT services companies in Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, commending the swift action taken by Nashik police, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis called the matter ‘very serious.’
