Tata Consultancy Services mourned the demise of former chairman Cyrus Mistry, the company said in a statement on Sunday. The former Tata Sons chairman succumbed in a tragic road accident on his way from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

“Tata Consultancy Services mourns the untimely demise of our former chairman, Shri Cyrus Mistry,” said a TCS statement.

Mistry, 54, is survived by his spouse and two sons. Mistry became the sixth chairman of Tata Sons in 2012. He had taken over as chairman in December post Ratan Tata’s retirement.

“He was a warm, friendly, and congenial person who built a strong relationship with the TCS family during his time as the Chairman of the company. We offer our deepest condolences and prayers to his family and friends in their time of loss.”

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran also issued a statement mourning Mistry's demise at a “young age”.

"I am deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely demise of Mr Cyrus Mistry. He had a passion for life and it is really tragic that he passed away at such a young age. My deepest condolences and prayers for his family in these difficult times," he wrote in a statement.
