TCS continues to hire in Q2, adds 5,726 employees

In the previous quarter Q1, the Tata group subsidiary had reversed the declining headcount trend by adding 5452 employees after a drop of three consecutive quarters.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, added 5,726 employees during the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 - July to September period, continuing its net employee addition from the previous quarter.

The total employee count at the end of September was at 612,724, up from 606,998 in the previous quarter ending June.

In the previous quarter Q1, the Tata group subsidiary had reversed the declining headcount trend by adding 5452 employees after a drop of three consecutive quarters.


Milind Lakkad, chief HR Officer of TCS, said: “We welcomed 11,000 associates in the first half of the year, and we remain on track for trainee onboarding as planned.”

The IT bellwether has projected to hire 40,000 freshers during the ongoing fiscal year ending March 2025.

Lakkad added, “We have also commenced the campus hiring process for FY26. Our strong talent base and increased learning intensity prepares us well for the complex technology transformations that customers entrust us with.”

The latest headcount changes come after FY24 reported a first time annual employee reduction in 19 years. For the full year ending March 2024, TCS had reduced its employees by 13,249 from a year ago.

The attrition for the quarter inched up a tad to 12.3% as against 12.1% in Q1. However, it was still lower from 14.9% in Q2 of last year.

Announcing its Q2FY25 earnings, TCS posted a 5% increase in its consolidated net profit at Rs 11,909 crore, missing ET estimates for the second quarter ending September. Its net profit in the same quarter last year stood at Rs 11,342 crore.

TCS revenue during the quarter increased by 7.6% YoY to Rs 64,259 crore as compared with Rs 59,692 crore a year ago.
