Infosys has asked its employees to recommend candidates for open positions at its development centres across India, in a sign of lateral hiring gaining momentum at India’s second largest software exporter.

The Bengaluru-headquartered software giant has offered cash rewards to its employees if their recommended candidates are selected.

Its larger rival Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), on the other hand, is said to have paused lateral hiring after onboarding about 650 last month amid the 12,000 layoffs (2% of the workforce).

In an internal mail to employees, Infosys has announced rewards of Rs 10,000 for successful referrals at job level 3, Rs 25,000 for closures at job level 4, Rs 35,000 at level 5, and Rs 50,000 at level 6.

The open positions are in engineering, quality engineering, the strategic technology group, and enterprise application integration and services. The experience required varies according to the position. The lowest is two-three years, while other positions need experience of 13-15 years.

“This is the first time we have received back-to-back mails encouraging us to recommend candidates for vacancies that run into several pages,” an employee said. Infosys, in response to an email, said it’s in a silent period, suggesting it cannot comment.

The vacancies are in development centres across Delhi / NCR, Pune, Noida, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Thiruvananthapuram, Mysuru, Chandigarh, and Hubballi. The roles the company is seeking to fill include VOIP experts, data analysts, data scientists, solution designers, blockchain developers, java developers, network designers, aerospace engineers, specialist programmers, and technology architects.

The IT major is seeking candidates with excellent academic credentials and they must possess a BE, ME, MCA, or MSc degree. The candidates, however, must not have appeared for any Infosys selection process in the past six months.

The hiring comes close on the heels of the company sending mails to senior employees inviting them to be on interview panels for campus hires, ET reported in June. Their remit is to visit colleges across the country and recruit digital specialist engineers.

Senior employees at job level five and above with at least one year of service at the company and with a performance rating of `met expectations’ or above can offer themselves for the exercise.

The hiring comes ahead of the company’s Q2FY26 results announcement on Thursday October 16. The results of peers TCS, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra over the past week has shown a growth in the deals momentum as clients look beyond tariff-related uncertainties.

Further, besides TCS slashing its headcount by nearly 20K, the companies are also seeing some addition in their workforce, signalling an uptick in project execution
