Infosys views Cloud as a key focus area that is responsible for propelling growth in digital revenue, a senior executive told ET.

Last year, as part of its strategy to grow its cloud business, India's second-largest software services company launched Infosys Cobalt, a set of services, solutions and platforms to help clients, mostly large enterprises, build new cloud-first capabilities.

The company no longer thinks of cloud as a purely infrastructure play.

“The growth you see on the digital revenues of Infosys today where we talk about 50% of revenue coming from digital, a large part of it is propelled by what's happening on the cloud,” said Narsimha Rao Mannepalli, executive vice president, head of cloud & infrastructure solutions and Infosys validation solutions.

The Bengaluru-based company, which has bet big on cloud and emerging technologies, saw digital revenue grow 31.3% from a year ago in constant currency to $1.76 billion, contributing 50.1% to total revenue for the December quarter. It did not disclose cloud revenue separately.

“Cloud technology has been in existence for a decade and been a part of digital transformation agenda for enterprises for years, but like all transformations, they were long drawn but thanks to Covid-19, new realities kicked in a big way when they realised that the world, customers, supply chains as they know were completely impacted,” Mannepalli said.

Infosys has been investing in the cloud over many years, particularly since it adopted the digital transformation agenda three years back under chief executive Salil Parekh, he said, adding that the company has invested in building competencies, partnerships, own intellectual property and assets.

On Monday, the company said Spirit AeroSystems has chosen it as lead technology integration partner to help drive and set up the end-to-end applications and infrastructure integration of a few of Bombardier’s former aerostructures and aftermarket services assets, which the US-based aerostructures manufacturer recently acquired.

The IT framework will be built on infrastructure solutions powered by Infosys Cobalt.
