India trusted partner in quantum computing, supply chains: US official

India is a trusted partner of the US in areas such as quantum computing and supply chains, US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah Rogers said on Tuesday.

Rogers is on a visit to India, Nepal, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan for advancing commercial diplomacy, cultural preservation, digital freedom, and innovation.

"India is one of our trusted partners on things like quantum computing and supply chains, and I think that is an example of a concrete implementation of the Trump administration's priorities in South and Central Asia," Rogers said in an online media interaction from Turkmenistan's capital, Ashgabat.


Rogers was in New Delhi last month where she spoke at the Indian Institute of Technology IIT Delhi on the Transforming the Relationship Utilising Strategic Technology (TRUST) initiative.

"I think this (TRUST) is one of many concrete deliverables that advance some of our really important strategic interests in the region," she said.

Rogers said she also visited some of the exchange participants in the Quad framework to talk about fibre optic cables and other kinds of critical technological initiatives in the region.

Rogers' visit to India came close on the heels of the Quad foreign minister's meeting that was attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on May 24.

Rogers said there were several lines of convergence between India and the US on technology.

"India is a giant tech market, and we've seen a lot of productive symbiosis between American and Indian companies and entrepreneurs," she said.

"One line of collaboration that I actually mentioned in my opening remarks is the TRUST initiative. I think we're seeing productive collaboration through the plot as well, and I am confident that there will be future productive lines of collaboration on tech," Rogers said.
