Cognizant has named Rajesh Nambiar, chairman and managing director of its India unit, to replace digital business & technology president Malcolm Frank, who is retiring from the company in September.

Nambiar’s appointment is effective Friday. He will also continue in his role as chairman, Cognizant India.

Frank, who has been with Cognizant for 16 years, on May 28 notified the company of his intent to retire, according to a stock exchange filing on Friday.

Earlier this year, Cognizant merged two out of three services lines — digital business and digital systems and technology — into a single, new service line called digital business & technology under Frank. Analysts had lauded the move citing that Frank was a popular figure with CIOs of enterprises.

In an internal note, chief executive Brian Humphries said Nambiar would bring "deep knowledge of applications, data, AI, analytics, infrastructure, cloud and consulting to his new role".
