Wipro trains guns on all PC segments
Wipro is aiming to grow ahead of the market with a focus on all the segments.

BANGALORE: Wipro Infotech , the IT services , solutions and products division of Wipro is aiming to grow ahead of the market with a focus on all the segments.
Wipro Infotech has its manufacturing plant at Pondicherry producing laptops, desktops and servers with a capacity of 1,500 machines per day. Talking to ET, Mr Ashutosh Vaidya, VP – personal computing division, Wipro Infotech, said, “Every segment is a robust market for us and we believe in delivering robust products with superior quality .”According to IDC, the total unit shipments in the Indian PC market for FY’ 06 exceeded 4.6 million, recording a growth of 30% over the previous fiscal.

Mr Vaidya, who recently took over the PC business of Wipro, said that the highest level of quality and service would make the difference at the marketplace .He said, Wipro Infotech puts in very stringent quality tests for all its products which include suiting it to the Indian conditions as well as environmental issues.
The brand name of Wipro products are LittleGenius for notebooks, SuperGenius for desktop PC and NetPower for its server line. For Wipro, the enterprise segment has been its strongest market, while the retail segment is addressed by its reseller channel network.
Mr Vaidya said that it has been following a more focussed approach to the market with a strong emphasis on value offering . According to IDC for FY’ 06, in the overall client PC (sum of notebook PC and desktop PC) market, HP retained the top slot with a market share of 18% followed by HCL at 14% and Lenovo at 9% in terms of unit shipments . However, in terms of desktop PC shipments, HCL led the market for FY’ 06 followed by HP and Lenovo.
In the total notebook PC shipments , HP was the top vendor. However, Mr Vaidya felt that the PC market is quite fragmented in the country, providing enough opportunities for all the players It is estimated that the total unit shipments of the Indian PC market is likely to cross 6 million in the current fiscal.
