The IFA 2014 Gadget Round-up

What first started in 1924 is now one of the largest consumer technology tradeshows on the planet. As IFA comes to a close on Sep 10, ET brings you some of the big ticket launches which will soon make their way to our shores.

1. Samsung Galaxy Note 4
The new flagship from Samsung has a 5.7-inch super amoled touchscreen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It runs the current best hardware available: Snapdragon 805 quad or octa core Exynos processor (depending on region), 3GB RAM, 32GB storage (expandable) and a 3,220mAh battery.

Samsung has improved the S Pen stylus with increased pressure sensitivity and added a bunch of new software enhancements on the smartphone. The camera is now a 16MP sensor with optical image stabilization. It also does 4k video recording.





2. Samsung Gear S




Have you stayed away from smartwatches because they are too limited? Then the Gear S is worth a look. While it may be too large for some people, the 2-inch curved amoled display is defi nitely an attention grabber.

It can also work independently of a phone (thanks to a built in SIM card) & you can compose messages on it directly using the on-screen QWERTY keyboard.



3. Sony Xperia Z3


The Xperia Z3 is very similar to the Xperia Z2 that was launched in April this year itself. However, the Z3 has a far better design, a nicer screen, is slimmer, lighter and offers better resistance to water and dust. The specifications remain the same: Snapdragon 801 quad core processor, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage (expandable) and a 5.2-inch full HD display.

Sony has continued with a 20.7MP rear camera that is capable of 4k video recording and a front 2.2MP camera. Due to the slimmer size, the Z3 uses a nanoSIM & has a slightly smaller 3,100mAh battery.





4. Asus Zen Watch

The Zen Watch is Asus' first wearable powered by the Android Wear operating system. It looks like a traditional analog watch with a leather watchband and metal body. It has a 1.63-inch amoled touchscreen and measures your steps, calories and hear rate.

The watch is powered by a 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB RAM and comes with 4GB storage. Like any smartwatch, it works in conjunction with your phone to show notifi cations, control the camera or unlock your Asus phone.

5. LG G Watch R


For us, the star of the LG booth was the G Watch R – the new circular dial smartwatch powered by Android Wear. It's small, lightweight and super stylish. Unlike Motorola’s Moto 360, this one has a display that’s perfectly circular. It also has excellent build quality, beautiful watch faces and offers a variety of interchangeable straps.





6. Lumia 830

This is Microsoft's first phone to feature the new Windows Phone Denim update and it's the slimmest and lightest Lumia to date. The highlight is the 10MP PureView camera with optical image stabilization & a new version of the camera app which is faster and offers various enhancements.

The phone runs on a 1.2Ghz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage (expandable) & has a 2,200mAh battery. It has a 5-inch HD IPS display, Dolby Digital Plus sound enhancement & built-in wireless charging.
