When is Number portability going to be imple-mented in India? Will I be able to change from CDMA to GSM once MNP comes into effect? — Sunil Dave

As per the latest information, MNP is supposed to be rolled out in November 2010. But with the number of delays that have already taken place - we wouldn't bet on it! However, as and when MNP is implemented - it is very unlikely that it will allow a switch from CDMA to GSM providers or vice versa. Moreover, you are not even allowed to port numbers from one circle to another.

For example, if you are a Vodafone Delhi customer, you cannot switch to Airtel Bangalore. You can only port a number within the same circle. There will most likely be a small fee associated with the change, and your new operator will also need to re-verify all your details.

If I need to shoot both high quality still images and HD video, is it better to go for a DSLR or a regular camera? Which one would you recommend within a budget of Rs 30K? — Jatin Singh

A lot of compact and prosumer cameras today offer both high quality stills and video. The advantage of going with a compact camera is, of course, the portability, but you will lose out on features and overall quality.

Prosumer cameras will have more features and a higher zoom range. But for maximum versatility and highest quality, you should go for a DSLR. If your budget is about Rs 30,000, go for the Nikon D3100. It is available with an 18-55mm VR lens for Rs 32,000.
