Tatas' EKA, 4th fastest supercomputer in the world

EKA, the super computer developed by Tatas' Computational Research Laboratories, has been ranked the fourth fastest in the world and fastest in Asia.

MUMBAI: EKA, the super computer developed by Tatas’ Pune-based Computational Research Laboratories, has been ranked the fourth fastest in the world and fastest in Asia.

This was disclosed in the Top500 Supercomputer list at the International Conference for High Performance Computing held in Nevada, US.

Computational Research Laboratories, a subsidiary of Tata Sons, built the supercomputer using dense data center layout, novel network routing and parallel processing library technologies.

EKA, which in Sanskrit means number one, uses nearly 1,800 computing nodes and has a peak performance of 170 trillion floating point operations per second and a sustained performance of 120 Teraflops based on the LINPACK benchmarks.

“EKA has put India at the forefront of high performance and supercomputing technology globally. It gives the ability to address applications in multiple disciplines including software research,” said S Ramadorai, chairman of CRL and CEO and MD of Tata Consultancy Services.
