Star ratings for computers, laptops to be mandatory: BEE

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is all set to make star-rating compulsory for computers and laptops from this year.

HYDERABAD: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is all set to make star-rating compulsory for computers and laptops from this year.

According to Sandeep Garg, Energy Economist, BEE, the energy rating agency will hold discussions with manufactures on the issue next week.

"Computer, laptops and set top boxes are some of the appliances which will be brought under star- rating in this fiscal," Garg said here today.

The Government of India, as part of the energy saving methods, has started issuing rating through BEE, to electrical appliances from one to five stars based on the energy saving capacity.

Speaking on the efforts being put by the BEE towards energy saving, he said the aim of the agency is to save at least 10,000 megawatt in the 11th plan.

"With the use of star-rating products in the country, we saved 2600 megawatt energy and we will take the figure to 3000 by 2012," Garg said.
