NEW DELHI: Tablet maker Simmtronics today made a foray into smartphone segment with the launch of two Android-based handsets at a price starting from Rs 3,499 and also announced an investment of Rs 200 crore in the new business.

The company introduced two handsets under the Xpad brand at a price ranging from Rs 3,499 to Rs 8,999.

"The company will invest Rs 200 crore in the smartphone segment. We expect overall revenue of Rs 800 crore by the end of this financial year," Simmtronics Managing Director Indrajit Sabharwal said in a statement.

Simmtronics in the only domestic company that manufactures devices in India. It has plants at Bhiwadi, Roorkee and Greater Noida.

The company has got licence from Ericsson for using its technology in both tablets and smartphones.

"Simmtronics is the only Indian company both in tablets and smartphone segments to be licensed by Ericsson and hence have a licensed access to launch 2G, 3G, 4G LTE products across the globe," Sabharwal said.

The company, which also makes memory modules, motherboards and personal computers, had last reported revenues of Rs 550 crore.

The company's lowest priced handset XPad Fundroid Q1 is dual-sim phone with 1 Ghz processor, 2 megapxiel back camera and a digital front camera. The phone runs on Android 2.3 and has a 3.5 capacitive screen. It comes with 2MP rear camera and a digital front camera.

The high-end version XPad M1 Amazoid smartphone runs on Android Jelly Bean platform and comes with 1.2 GHz dual core processor, 4.7 inch capacitive touch screen, 8MP rear and 2 MP front camera with 4GB in-built memory.

Simmtronics has tied up with HCL Care for providing aftermarket services.
