Sify ready to activate its capacity in submarine cable system

Internet service provider Sify today said it was gearing to link its operations through the Europe India Gateway (EIG) submarine cable system.

NEW DELHI: Internet service provider Sify today said it was gearing to link its operations through the Europe India Gateway (EIG) submarine cable system.

When fully activated, the USD 700 million submarine cable systems will be the first, direct, high-bandwidth optical Fibre system from the UK to India, Sify said in a statement.

The ISP major is one of the investor in EIG capacities. Meanwhile, Sify's exclusive partnership with GBI (Gulf Bridge International) to land their Cable System in India is scheduled to go live in second half of 2011.

"We will have over 50 Gbps of bandwidth between India, Middle East and Europe and this will establish our presence and reputation on the Global Telecom map", said Sify Chairman Raju Vegesna.

"Our International services now have a world class cable system backing to serve the growing markets in the Middle East and Africa", he said in a statement.

Sify in India has licenses to operate NLD (National Long Distance) and ILD (International Long Distance) telecom services.
