NEW DELHI: Chinese premium phone maker OnePlus is investing Rs 1,000 crore over three years to expand its India research and development centre, which will become its largest research facility globally by 2022.

“Our OnePlus R&D centre in India is already playing a crucial role by establishing itself as a global R&D base for the brand, particularly from the software development front with contributions towards global markets as well, including European and North America markets,” Ramagopala Reddy, Vice President, OnePlus R&D, India, told ET.

Reddy said that the India R&D team was also involved in developing OnePlus 8 and Nord series of smartphones.

“…The India R&D team led the software development efforts for OnePlus Nord from end to end, with over 500+ software builds of OxygenOS,” he said.

OnePlus India R&D team currently has over 300 employees working out of Hyderabad. It has recently hired over 70 graduates from universities like IITs and NITs across India through our campus placement efforts.

“Being based out of this city with a supportive ecosystem and a great pool of talent has also benefited us as a global technology brand. We are committed to the Indian market, and with our R&D centre operations in Hyderabad, we seek to delve deeper into our ‘Make in India’ strategy and continue to expand our local presence,” Reddy said.
