NEW DELHI: Micromax Informatics, the largest home-bred handset maker, entered the personal computing segment with hybrid Canvas LapTab — a tablet that can function as a laptop when attached to a portable keypad.

The company is also planning to launch a slew of products in the new area to grab a foothold. Micromax, which already makes tablets and flat screen televisions, will launch the LapTab on May 6 on Amazon’s India site exclusively, priced atRs 14,999. The 10-inch touchenabled screen Windows-8.1 enabled LapTab powered by Intel processor will be targeted at students, travellers and enterprises with large sales automation workforce.

"We will launch five to six LapTab models by March next year, which will be more than 10-inches in screen size, which will be introduced through the offline retail channels as well," said Vikas Jain, co-founder of the company.
