Lenovo names Rahul Agarwal as India Managing Director
NEW DELHI: Technology major Lenovo today said it has appointed Rahul Agarwal as the Managing Director of its India operations with immediate effect.

Agarwal succeeds Amar Babu, who will now take on a regional mandate as Chief Operating Officer, Asia Pacific and Chairman, Lenovo India.

"Rahul Agarwal takes charge at a time when Lenovo is gearing up for its next phase of growth, diversifying beyond PCs into the smart connected devices while maintaining a strong PC focus," Lenovo said in a statement.

India plays a key role in the transformation and therefore, is an extremely critical market for the company, it added.

"Rahul's wealth of experience has been instrumental in driving Lenovo's growth and making him the natural choice to take over from Amar Babu," Lenovo President (Asia Pacific) Roderick Lappin said.

Agarwal, over the last three years, has led Lenovo's commercial business and has managed various roles in sales and marketing over the last 10 years.

In 2014, Lenovo held the third spot with 15.8 per cent market share in the Indian PC segment, while it is aiming to be among the top three in the Indian smartphone market.

Lenovo K3 Note: First impressions

Over the last six months, we've seen Chinese device maker Lenovo move its focus to budget, 4G-enabled smartphones such as the A6000, A6000 Plus and A7000.

The decision to sell these devices only online enabled the company to price them at relatively affordable levels and take on rivals such as Xiaomi and Micromax.

Continuing with the same strategy, Lenovo has now introduced the K3 Note, a phablet that sports a full-HD display and better optics than the company's A-series phones.

It also includes some software based gesture features seen only in mid-range phones like the Lenovo Vibe X2.

The K3 Note looks very similar to the Lenovo A7000. In fact, the two share the same design and dimensions (152.6x76.2x7.99mm) though the K3 Note is slightly heavier (10grams).

The phone essentially sports the same rectangular form factor combined with rounded corners and a plastic shell.

It has a removable back cover that comes in three colour variants - onyx black, pearl white and laser yellow.

The black and yellow panels sport a matte finish and look premium though the latter may not appeal to everyone.

The back panels will be available separately. Other than that, the phone has a very utilitarian design.
