iPad Mini with retina display: Apple unveils new tablet at $399

NEW DELHI: In a move to revamp the iPad Mini, Apple on Tuesday unveiled a new version of the tablet with a retina display. The new iPad Mini has a 2048 x 1536 pixels display, same as the big iPad, said Apple.

The new iPad Mini also gets the A7 chip and is up to 4 times faster on CPU. It has 8 times faster graphics. The new tablet has a battery life of 10 hours.

It boasts of a 5 megapixel iSight camera, with a 1080 p FaceTime camera. It will be available in silver and black versions, starting at a price of $399 with Wi-fi. It will start selling from November 1. The original iPad Mini will sell for $299.

Apple also introduced new smart covers in new colours at $39 and new full-wrap cases at $79.

Apple also unveiled the iPad Air, a 9.7 inch screen tablet. The new iPad has a Retina display with a smaller bezel. Apple said that the new iPad is thinner, lighter and more powerful than before. It is 20 per cent thinner than the outgoing model at 7.5 mm.

According to Apple, iPad Air is the lightest full-size tablet in the world. The new tablet runs on an A7 chip and a M7 motion co-processor.

Apple claims that it is boasts of 8 times faster performance and 72 times faster graphics performance.

It has a 5 mega-pixel iSight camera with 1080 p Face-Time camera. The new iPad, which will be available in colors of silver and white, and space gray and black has a battery life of up to 10 hours.

iPad Air will replace the previous one and start retailing at $499 for the 16 GB version. The iPad 2 price will be $399 for the 16 GB Wi-Fi version.

The original iPad debuted in early 2010 and accelerated the consumer shift away from traditional laptop and desktop computers. Tablets, including rival devices inspired by the iPad, are now outselling laptops.
