Intel launches its fastest ever Xeon 7500 series
The global chip leader launched its fastest high-performance processor under the Xeon 7500 series.
"The Intel Xeon 7500 processor series represents the largest performance leap in the Xeon family history, with the chip being an average three times faster across a range of benchmarks and offering over 20 new reliability features," Intel India sales director R Ravichandran said at the launch here today. The product was globally launched yesterday.
"This combination will help users push to new levels of productivity and accelerate the industry's migration from proprietary architectures," he said, adding with the Xeon 7500 series, Intel culminates the transition to its award-winning Nehalem chip design.
The Xeon 7500 series increases energy efficiency and computing speed and include a multitude of new features that make computers more intelligent, flexible and reliable. Expandable to include from two to 256 chips per server, the new Xeon 7500 processors have an average performance three times that of the existing Xeon 7400 series, said Ravichandran.
One of the 20 new features is the machine-check architecture which works with the operating system to allow recovery from otherwise fatal memory errors. With up to eight times the memory bandwidth of the Xeon 7,400 processors and many times the memory capacity, with 16 memory slots per processor, the 7500 series can support 1 terabyte of memory in a four-socket platform.
In the traditional enterprise server market, Xeon 7500 is ideal for platforms handling databases, customer relationship management applications and large-scale virtualisation environment.
