Intel introduces datacenter processor family

BANGALORE: Chip maker Intel India today introduced 'Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 v2' product family, that promises to redefine the server, storage and networking infrastructure found in datacenters.

The company said with greater efficiency and flexibility, these processors will enable the rapid delivery of services for high performance computing, cloud and enterprise segment, and offer a compelling new opportunities for telecommunications vendors.

"The new family of 22nm processors are ideally suited for high performance computing, cloud and enterprise segments, and offer compelling new opportunities for telecommunications," Intel Asia Pacific Software and Services Group- Director - Narendra Bhandari told reporters at the launch event here.

"The product family offers up to 45 per cent greater efficiency and up to 50 per cent more performance compared to the previous generations," he added.

Intel's global datacenter business generates more than USD 10 billion in revenue annually.

The company said National Stock Exchange (NSE) has been collaborating with Intel to address their huge computing requirement; NSE's current application 'PRISM' was being run on the previous version of Xeon servers, optimisation and performance testing was carried out on Intel Xeon Processor E5-2600 v2 product family.

Stating that datacenters are entering a new era of rapid service delivery and it requires a new approach to deliver the scale and efficiency required, Bhandari said, "Through this initiative, we are looking to accelerate Intel's progress in the enterprise space in India with high performance solutions that address the high performance needs of the fast evolving space."

Intel also launched Intel Atom C2000 processor family, first based on Silvermont micro-architecture.
