Industry welcomes semiconductor policy notification

NEW DELHI: Information Technology hardware industry apex body MAIT has welcomed semiconductor policy saying it would boost the capital intensive IT manufacturing in the country.

"The new policy is a significant step towards creating a conducive ecosystem for IT manufacturing in the country and is set to change the landscape of the same in India", Executive Director, Vinnie Mehta said.

The policy will also give a boost to the fab-less industry in India as it will enable prototyping and market testing for new products, he added.

SemIndia MD B V Naidu said in a statement that the notification of the semiconductor policy is a good sign as those planning to set up a semiconductor fab in India could now go ahead with concrete proposals. "Till now only there was discussion. Now real progress will start," he said.

SemIndia is a leading a consortium engaged in construction of India's first Fabrication unit in the outskirts of Hyderabad.v
