IBM to woo SMB market with new microprocessor

IBM, a global leader in high-end servers is all set to woo the SMB (small and medium business market) in India with its new Dual Core Microprocessor Power6 and system p570 server.

BANGALORE: IBM, a global leader in high-end servers is all set to woo the SMB (small and medium business market) in India with its new Dual Core Microprocessor Power6 and system p570 server, its top official said.

"We are looking at the SMB market in a big way for Power6. The new growth for IBM is coming from SMB which constitutes Rs 200-400 crore. The deal size today for our servers is about Rs 25-30 lakh", said Shashi B Mal, Director, Systems and Technology Group, IBM India/SA.

IBM plans to migrate 70 per cent of its product offerings to Power6, which can be run on Unix and Linux multiversions, he told reporters on the sidelines of unveiling its new processor in Maldives on December 7.

IBM has a 40 per cent share of the UNIX market in India which was growing at 14-16 per cent annually. IBM's clients for Power6 include Metlife, Bajaj Auto, GMR Infrastructure, Dabur (Health and Retail), Aviva, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Union Bank of India among others.

"Our focus is on innovation and systems design. We are Working on Power7 and expect it to come by 2010-2011. We have already committed to customers for that", said Jyoti Satyanathan Vice President - IBM India/South Asia.

IBM plans to re-allocate USD one billion each year to accelerate Green Technology and Services. Systems and Technology accounts to one-third of IBM's business.
