BANGALORE: Huawei Technologies will not set up a mobile handset manufacturing factory in India this year as its market share in the country's mobile phone market continues to be insignificant, a senior executive at the Chinese telecom gear maker's Indian operations said.

"Investing in a new plant doesn't make sense now because of the weak market share Huawei has in India's mobile phone market," Anand Narang, director -marketing, Huawei India said recently.

"In the next five years, Huawei aims to be one of the top mobile vendors in India. As our volumes increase, we will look at setting up a plant in India. But definitely not now," he added.

Nokia dominated India's mobile phone market in the January-March quarter, with 23% market share followed by Samsung which reported a 14% share, data from Cybermedia Research show.
