Chinese telecom firm Huawei announced the appointment of William Zhao as the new Chief Operating Officer of Huawei Technologies India.

NEW DELHI: Chinese telecom firm Huawei today announced the appointment of William Zhao as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Huawei Technologies India - the group's first and largest R&D center outside of China.

"As the COO, William has complete management responsibility, delivering on the company's vision and developing its long-term investment and strategic plan for India," Huawei said in a statement.

He is responsible for enhancing Huawei Technologies India's position as the most competitive research and development (R&D) center, expanding its operations and leading new business growth areas, it said.

The centre has a team of over 3,000 highly-skilled Indian engineers and professionals.

William joined Huawei in 1997 and has served at several senior positions across different divisions in Huawei.
