HP remains optimistic on computing market despite low GDP outlook
KOLKATA: Hewlett-Packard ( HP) India today remained optimistic about the computing products market in the country despite projections despite lower GDP expectations for the current fiscal.

"We do not foresee any impact on low GDP number projections for the year. We remain optimistic about the computing products market," HP India director (consumer category) Ketan Patel said here.

He said with low penetration of computerisation in the country, innovative devices were being scouted for and state government's purchase programmes for distribution to students would be drivers for growth.

Without elaborating on numbers, he said in Q2 (April-June) HP's market share had inched up to 34.1 per cent (rpt) 34.1 per cent in the computing products market in the country.

Recently Hewlett-Packard Company chief executive Meg Whitman was quoted as saying that the company expected revenue to stabilise in 2014 with pockets of growth before the business accelerated again in 2015. HP's had seen decline in revenue for some time.

Speaking about on-line sales portal of HP India, Patel said this was now up and running. "But we want this to be more for showcasing our products rather aggressive sales."
