Homegrown brands top in smartphone sales in Asia-Pacific

For the first time, smartphone shipments outpaced those of feature phones in Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan), on the back of rising sales of homegrown brands, according to IDC. Vendors in the region shipped 119 m smartphones in Q2, up 10% QoQ. In contrast, feature phones shipments declined 7% QoQ to 106 m units. Samsung led the smartphone pack while China’s Lenovo, Coolpad, Huawei and ZTE all outshipped Apple.
