KOLKATA: Homegrown lowcost handset vendor Hitech Mobiles is in advanced talks with two Chinese companies to source technology and components in the run-up to setting up a cellphone-assembling unit in West Bengal.

Md Gyasuddin, managing director of Kolkata-based Hitech Mobiles, hopes to finalise the deals shortly with Shenzhen-based United Creation and Suntak. United Creation manufactures mobile phones.

Tele1 Mobile, which uses the Suntak brand, is a cellphone R&D company. Hitech is also in talks with the Bengal government to acquire an acre of prime land on the outskirts of Kolkata to establish the proposed mobile handset assembling unit.
