Technology major Hewlett Packard Limited has been directed by a consumer court here to either repair or replace a CD writer which was allegedly defective and pay the buyer a compensation of Rs 4,000.

NEW DELHI: Technology major Hewlett Packard Limited has been directed by a consumer court here to either repair or replace a CD writer which was allegedly defective and pay the buyer a compensation of Rs 4,000 for deficiency in service.

"There is some deficiency in services and accordingly direct the HP Limited to get the CD writer thoroughly checked and rectify the defects, if any, and if the defects are not curable, the CD writer be replaced without any charges," the Delhi District Consumer Forum headed by M P Mehndiratta said.

The Forum passed the order on a complaint of Manan Somani seeking refund for the CD writer alongwith compensation.

According to the complainant, the CD writer was not functioning properly despite replacements by the company resulting into losses.

The company had contended that there was no deficiency in service on its part and the defect in the CD writer was due to its use on unsupportive computer terminals.

"We direct HP Ltd to pay Rs 4,000 as compensation," the Forum said.
