NEW DELHI: At first glance, Zync's new quad core Android tablet will look like an iPad because it has a 9.7-inch screen (with exactly the same aspect ratio as the full size iPad).

Even though it is substantially cheaper than any iPad, it also feels expensive - mainly thanks to the brushed aluminium back and the pin-sharp screen. At 2048 x 1536 pixels, the display has more pixels than a full HD TV - and exactly the same as the iPad 3/4 - prompting Zync to call it a 'Retina' display.

There is no home button on the device - instead, the usual Android 'back' , 'home' and 'menu' buttons occupy some space on the screen - making the usable screen space a tad smaller than it actually is. Apart from the 3.5mm headphone and a proprietary charging port, all ports are under a pull out flap.

The rear camera is surprisingly good - it takes better photos than the iPad 2. Performance is also great - with 2GB RAM, everything feels silky-smooth and it can run all the games and HD video you want.

There's not too much clutter on the interface - Zync has chosen to go with the stock Android interface - which is a good thing because it makes all animations butter-smooth and you can easily customise it.

Thanks to the 8,000mAh battery, it will easily last you for 8 hours of constant use. Some people may not like that the tablet uses a proprietary charging port - this means that you will need to carry the charger around.

We also noticed that a portion of the tablet got uncomfortably hot after about an hour of use, something heightened by the metal back panel. However, it still remains excellent value for money and a good option for those seeking excellent performance and high quality display at a cheaper price.
