iPhone App: Power a universal remote

If your living room has a TV, DVD player, speakers — pretty much the works — then you’re going to be left with plenty of remotes lying around.

You could get a Logitech Universal remote to do the trick, but with an iPhone app it’s much more fun. You can control multiple devices via basic infrared (IR).

The app can be customised easily and requires no additional hardware or docks. Free app updates and enhancements are regularly pushed on the app.

LG GU285 phone

LG has been in the news lately with phones for almost every occasion. The LG GU285 has a 2.2-inch touchscreen. It can’t print pictures via Bluetooth.

It has 2 cameras — a 1.3 megapixel one at the back and a VGA camera on the front for video calling. It supports GPRS/EDGE, can load emails and is 3G ready.

Other features include expandable memory up to 8GB, music playback, FM Radio and ‘Try & Games’ which offers games like Sudoku, Ferrari GT and more .

PAL

Short for Phase Alternate Line, it is a standard television encoding system used in India. Primarily associated with colour, PAL was first unveiled to the public in 1963.

The PAL format automatically adjusts colour errors by alternating the colour signal in your TV.

All video devices made for India have PAL. For example: DVD players, televisions, blu ray discs etc. The first PAL
broadcast was in the UK in 1964.
