EMC names new MD for India R&D

NEW DELHI: Storage and information infrastructure solutions company EMC Corporation has named a former Microsoft executive as its new vice president and managing director in-charge of research and development.

Arumugam Saravanan has joined EMC as head of EMC Center of Excellence, India (previously known as the EMC Bangalore Software Development and Support Centre).

Saravanan is a 10-year veteran of Microsoft with rich technology experience working within organizations in India, the Middle-East and the United States. He will be responsible to lead EMC's rapidly growing R&D and global corporate and customer-support operations in India.

Based in Bangalore, Saravanan will report to Mirchandani, who joined EMC in June 2006. He has been mandated to help EMC advance its international development efforts in emerging markets such as India and accelerate the company's overall globalization efforts. In this role, Saravanan will also partner with Manoj Chugh, President of EMC India & SAARC region, to incorporate the unique information infrastructure needs of India's marketplace into EMC's local technology development efforts.

At Microsoft, Saravanan held a variety of senior management roles in India, serving most recently as the MD of Microsoft Global Services India. Prior to that, he oversaw Microsoft's IT's offshore delivery center and Indian outsourcing activities.
