Security systems maker Dorset on Friday announced a joint venture with Swiss technology leader in the electronic locks, Kaba, to capture a major chunk of the Rs 1,000 crore market in the country.

NEW DELHI: Security systems maker Dorset on Friday announced a joint venture with Swiss technology leader in the electronic locks, Kaba, to capture a major chunk of the Rs 1,000 crore market in the country.


There is a ready market for the high-end security systems and low-cost security systems in the country. We want to cater this Rs 1,000 crore market and become a market leader in the sector, said Rajesh Bansal, Managing Director, Dorset Kaba, the joint venture company.


This first ever joint venture in the Indian security hardware industry would manufacture and distribute a wide range of mechatronic and electronic locks and total access systems, Bansal added.


The Swiss company has a financial participation of 49 per cent in the joint venture.

We will contribute our state-of-the-art technology and superior product range to this new partnership. The joint venture aims to achieve a turnover of around Rs 215 crore in the first year, kaba senior vice president (competence centre mechanic and mechtronic) Gerhard Wenger said.


Our aim is to make the company a leading provider of mechanical and mechatronic access systems in India, Bansal said.


Dorset Kaba has set up a manufacturing facility in Sidkul, Uttaranchal, with a total initial investment of Rs 20 crore, which would be increased to Rs 40 crore next fiscal. The plant has the production capacity of four million units.
