BEIJING: China's domestically-produced smartphones have boomed in sales and recorded more than 60 per cent market share at the end of June.

About 130 million domestically-produced smartphones were sold in the first half of 2013, up 115 per cent from the same period in 2012, state-run Xinhua news agency reported on Tuesday.

The leading brands in sales included Lenovo, Coolpad, Huawei and ZTE, it said.

China's smallphones will see a peak sales season from 2013 to 2015 with around 2 trillion yuan (USD 324.15 billion) in sales volume, said a report from CCID Consulting Co. Ltd., a leading domestic research and consulting company.

Meanwhile, domestic smartphone producers should improve their innovation capacity further, and their profit margins still lagged far behind those of the global brands, the report said.
