Dell targets double digit growth in laptop sales in 2013-14

CHANDIGARH: Dell India, that runs largest operation outside the US, expects consumer spending to push it notch double digit growth in sales volume in the laptop market in the next financial year. The company recorded a flat growth in the segment in the period from February 2012 to January 2013 against the industry growth of 7-8% in the domestic market.

With no laptops to offer in the affordable category, Dell lost on the volume market offered by various state governments that are offering free laptops to the students. Dell sold around one million laptops in market of six million in the last financial year. "The company sustained its 15% market share in the domestic market even though company faced challenging times due to budget cuts by government and slump in consumer spending," marketing director, Dell India Shishir Sharma said.

"The PC penetration is still below 6% in the country and we expect to grow in double digit in current financial year," he said. To boost its market Dell has redesigned portfolio of business and consumer PCs to take advantage of advances in new operating systems.

"The latest range of convertible, tablet, ultrabook combines new Dell hardware and cloud client solutions with Intel technology and Windows OS," says Ramaprasad S, Director -MNC Accounts, Intel South Asia. He said that the Intel processor based devices offer the users a secure and power efficient computing experience across the compute continuum.

Dell performed better in desktop segment notching 7-8% growth while the market is said to have posted negative growth.
