China's OPPO unveils OPPO Joy for India at Rs 8,990

NEW DELHI: OPPO India Wednesday launched a full-touch smartphone OPPO Joy priced at Rs 8,990, as the latest handset maker from China tries to make a dent in the crowded but fast growing devices market.

“Industry reports predict that India is poised to emerge as the third largest smartphone market in the world by 2017. There is a scarcity of affordable smartphones with high-end features in India,” OPPO India CEO Tom Lu said in a statement.

Based Android 4.2, OPPO Joy has dual-SIM capabilities and a unique feature called Hotknot which is MediaTek’s near field communication technology. Hotknot not only enables faster, limitless transmission but also secures file sharing at low power consumption.

The OPPO Joy also comes with O-Cloud that allows the user 5GB cloud storage space.

The Chinese smartphone maker made its foray into the Indian market in early 2014 with its flagship device OPPO N1 with a 5.9” screen, 206-degree rotating camera and rear touch panel.

As of now, OPPO has five phone models available in the Indian market with a target product portfolio of over 10 smartphones by the end of 2014, including the much-anticipated Find7 model which is expected to be launched mid-year.

The company is also planning an aggressive service network expansion in India and eyeing more than 200 service centres in the next one year.

It currently retails its devices in 12 cities in India that include Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Chandigarh.
