CES 2013: Samsung, LG & Sony showcase OLED & ultra-HD TVs, Xperia Z unveiled
Samsung's flagship 85-inch UHD TV was a stunner, thanks to the unique ‘gallery' design which incorporates a floor stand with built in array speakers.

Samsung, LG and Sony showcased their upcoming range of OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) and 4K (ultra high definition) televisions. LG showcased a 55-inch, 4mm thick OLED TV with a price tag of US$ 11,999. Panasonic announced that they would be launching a total of 32 televisions through the year which includes 16 plasma and 16 LED TVs with a new smart interface. The smart interface will allow each member of the family to have a personalized profile for content and channel preferences. Sony demoed a prototype of the world’s largest 4K OLED TV with a 56-inch panel.

In the smartphone category, Sony showed off the flagship Xperia Z. It has a 5-inch, full HD display, quad core processor, 13MP camera with HDR video, every connectivity option you can imagine, runs Android 4.1 and is water resistant. Huawei made the Ascend Mate phablet official. This is the first device with a 6.1-inch display (720p resolution), Android 4.1, quad core processor and a huge 4050 mAh battery.

Vising press were also treated to multiple new camera launches. Canon announced the PowerShot N – a compact camera with articulating touchscreen display, 12MP CMOS sensor and 8X optical zoom. Polaroid launched an Android smart camera called the iM1836 with interchangeable lenses. It runs Android Jelly bean, has a 3.5-inch touchscreen, built-in Wi-Fi and can be used with micro four-third lenses (with an adapter). Fujifilm announced seven new cameras which include basic point and shoot, prosumer and rugged cameras. The flagship HS50EXR, priced at US$ 550, has a 16MP CMOS sensor, does 1080p video at 60fps and has a manual focus 42X optical zoom lens.
One of the most interesting announcements came from Nvidia. Not only did they announce the upcoming Tegra 4 chipset, they gave a video demonstration of their upcoming handheld gaming device called ‘Project Shield'. This is a Tegra 4 powered Android gaming device with a 5-inch touchscreen (retina equivalent resolution) and a full gamepad.
