Celkon launches ‘Signature HD A119’ smart phone

HYDERABAD: Celkon Mobiles, India’s fifth largest mobile handsets company in revenues, has launched its ‘ Signature HD A119’ mobile handset as it seeks to get a foothold in the fast growing smart phone segment.

The foray of Celkon into HD smart phones comes close on the heels of another home grown mobile manufacturer and country’s third largest player Micromax witnessing success with its Canvas HD series smart phones.

Y Guru, Celkon’s managing director, said their latest smart phone comes with superior features like HD display, 12 MP camera and 1GB RAM at an affordable price of Rs 13,499.

“We are pinning our hopes on smart phone models like this to nearly double our sales during 2013-14 to around Rs 1,200 crore from some Rs 600 crore in the just concluded fiscal. As against some 48% contribution from smart phones now, we hope at least 70% sales coming from smart phones this fiscal,” he told a media conference.

Guru said the company eying to grab a sizeable pie of the growing Indian smart phone market by offering superior features at affordable prices. “We will focus on smart phones with HD display, high megapixel cameras, operating systems that promise superior browsing experience, dual core processors of over 1GHz and higher capacity RAM of at least 1GB among others.”
