India's largest operator Bharti Airtel Wednesday launched mobile-based education services which will allow its 185 million customers to access courses for learning English, preparing for competitive examinations and career counselling on their mobile phones.

"In many parts of the country, access to formal education is still restricted. Mobile platform has the potential to bridge this restriction using technology. Airtel mEducation service uses technology-enabled platforms to address the challenging issues of education with an endeavor to enrich the lives of our customers," Bharti Airtel's president for consumer business K Srinivas said.

Airtel will offer the service on voice (IVR) and text messages (SMS) formats that will have options of learning in regional languages. The service will also offer regular assessment tests and details of campuses and scholarships. Airtel will charge a minimum of Rs 1.5 to Rs 10 a day, depending on the type of service chosen by the customer.

Airtel will also offer mock tests for entrance and competitive exams such as UPSC, MBA for Rs 99 for 12 mock tests.
