Bharti Airtel will introduce Nokia's Android-based smart-phones in 17 African countries, where it has operations, from mid-April.

NEW DELHI: Telecom major Bharti Airtel will introduce Nokia's Android-based smart-phones in 17 African countries, where it has operations, from mid-April.

"Nokia X will come with data bundles for our customers to access their favorite social sites and chat applications," Airtel Africa Chief Marketing Officer Andre Beyers said in a statement.

Nokia X offers access to Android applications. Nokia X customers will have access to free HERE Maps. The handset has a 4-inch capacitive display, 3 megapixel camera and exchangeable back covers that come in a variety of bold colours. The device has 1 gigahertz dual core processor.

"We are delighted to partner with Airtel to offer the Nokia X smart-phone," Nokia Executive Vice-president for Mobile Phones, Timo Toikkanen said.

Nokia launched this handset in India for Rs 8,599 early this month.
